I received a lot of help from the tutoring center. The tutors explained me the logic and gave some time to figure out the code. Most of my appointments were with Alexus,Stephanie and Ciara. I understand the concepts better.
Every time I've visited the tutoring center I've always been helped with whatever questions I had. Ciara and Hansel are awesome and extremely helpful. If there was something they were unsure about they took time to figure it out so they could help me. My only suggestion would be not offering to tutor a course if it is far removed from your memory. Getting help with Logic & Algorithms wasn't super productive. Nonetheless great effort was made to help me. I think it would be great if there were dividers between some of the spaces to break up the noise or visual distractions of others sharing the space. Thanks everyone! Keep up the great work! See you in the fall!
This center is a great place to go to for help regarding projects and class material. I received a lot of help from Alexus on a project which helped me turn in it in time.
Everyone in the CCI Tutoring Center has been extremely kind and helpful. Every time I needed help on a particular project or subject, I received it and so much more. All of the tutors teach you in a way that you can understand and easily retain, it's amazing! 5 stars for all! Thank you all for everything!
The tutoring center is an essential tool for programmers. Everyone is very nice and extremely helpful. The group of individuals at the tutoring center genuinely care about your success and really make sure you have grasped the material they are assisting you with.
The whole group was so so helpful thank you. I got to work with almost all of you and everyone were very professional and helpful. Alexus, Rachel, and Ciara thank you so much for your patients and your hard work helping me try and understand java. Everyone in the tutoring center was kind and patient and I learned more from the tutoring center then my class. The Tutors are all knowledgable and very professional. Thank you Tutor center.
The tutoring center is an excellent resource for students. Often times, the material covered in class can be difficult to grasp, being that we are using logical material in abstract ways, it is hard to wrap ones brain around. All of the tutors this year were excellent! Kristina Gromysh is a whiz with databases. She is always willing to help a struggling student, and helps them gain the tools they need to grasp the topic. Rachel Chesley is a with websites. She has the creativity and artistic taste to design beautiful websites, as well as the skill to code them to be as functionally beautiful as they are aesthetically. She, though an expert on websites, walks the students through how to find and code the websites themselves, in the vein of "give a man a fish, feed him for a day, show a man how to fish, feed him for life." Ciara Moreno is an outstanding tutor. Data Structures and Algorithms have to be some of the hardest parts of the computer science field, because it's the section where the difficulty really ramps up, the application really starts. As such, many tutors would be tempted to just show a student how to solve the single problem they are working on, leaving them unprepared for later work. Not so with Ciara. Ciara helps you grasp the concepts and walks you through the material, but makes sure that you understand the underlying principle, so that you can apply it to further work later. It is the harder, longer term, but more fruitful form of tutoring, and Ciara is a master of it. Truly a credit to the center. Alexus Smith is also an excellent tutor. It is common in programming to known one way of doing something, become an expert in it, and teach that. But for every one action with programming, there is probably five or six different ways to do something. Alexus knows this and allows the student to work out the method of coding they are comfortable with and adapts it to work, rather than using the same coding by rote. She also shows the real world functional use of designing, and helps the students to grasp that. Ikran Hassan is a skilled security expert, as well as an expert on data structures and coding. She has a knack for breaking seemingly insurmountable work into manageable bites, and showing the student how to tackle it a bit at time, all the while making sure the student understands the underlying meaning. Raul Calcamo Alonzo is an earnest young man, who uses clear examples to break down difficult material into more easily understood bites, and his grasp of programming is astounding. There are of course more, but I did not use them this semester.
Ciara and Ikran have been very helpful guides throughout the semester. They are very passionate about their job and go overboard to help everyone. Thank you for all the extra effort everyone puts in.
Ikran Hassan and Ciara Moreno: I could not thank them enough, they are the most helpful smart and sweet girls I have never meet. they make you comfortable when you work with them. they simplified hard problem magically and teach you new technique of solving and mastering your problems. Raul: is very smart guy he knows how to break hard topic down logically I enjoy working with him couple times this semester Kristina Gromysh : she is nice and helpful she help couple times with database this semester Alexus Smith: very sweet girl she help me with HTML and CSS last fall Rachel Chelsey : sweet and nice she is very helpful All the tutors are helpful, the tutoring center is shining with the smart and kind people
Ikran is my hacking sensei
At the beginning of this semester I had no idea what was happening in my 3181 course. Ciara helped me gain a full understanding of the course material. She encourages me to work hard and, with her help, the hard work is paying off.
I love the tutoring center. They are so helpful and have greatly improved my knowledge in computer science and programming. They don't treat you like you're stupid when they help you and they seem to genuinely care about other students. Thank you guys!
This is one of the most helpful departments in this school. I personally have used it 95% of my time at uncc so far. I can speak for all the tutors saying they are well versed in all specs of the cci department. I would recommend to anyone to go to this facility if you are having issues.
Ikran Hassan really helped in making me have a better understanding of one of the instructions in my assignment, without spoon feeding me the answer. She spoke slowly and dumbed down certain material that I first had trouble comprehending in the lecture. I was really satisfied after our session.
I always leave tutoring with a much better understanding of my class and assignments after leaving here. I received much help with ITSC 2214. Ryan Carpenter and David Farthing taught me a lot of programming.
Coming from someone outside the CCI Majors, tutoring helped me tremendously this semester with ITCS 1213. I was helped this semester by Ryan, David, Mohamed, and Ciara. Every single one helped me whether it was with Lab work or Assignments and helped me succeed where otherwise I would have failed.
Mohamed Salad has been extremely helpful this all semester that i have worked with him . I really like the way he explains the logic and keeps the pace to keep moving since with our projects . Thumbs up Mohamed !!!
The CCI Tutoring has been extremely helpful!!! Ciara Moreno goes over everything in a very transparent and methodical way which makes the most complex subjects seem so simple! If you feel you need some extra help I highly recommend her and the CCI team.
Alexus is awesome. I received more support from her than my professor. She is patient, kind, and helped me work through the problem until it was resolved. Top marks!
Ciara was a great tutor and made the class material much easier to understand. Great center and great experience.
The tutoring center has been extremely helpful this semester! I've worked mostly with Ryan and he is very good with helping you understand the concepts. Overall, all the tutors are effective and willing to help!
She will teach all topics in test and help you in learning.
Friendly, helpful and patient, Ciara Moreno is an asset to the CCI Tutoring Center. Her knowledge on subjects and passion to help students is greatly appreciated!
Very nice tutor! Matthew Goodman was great help this semester. Friendly and quite knowledgeable.
The tutoring center saved my grades. Ciara Moreno helped me understand the material both conceptually and practically as she walked me through sample problems and had me soon doing them by myself without trouble. It's very clear that she knows the material well and is very good at explaining it in a way that makes it very easy to understand. She was very patient and would highlight what concepts would be important to future content or what would be on tests. The other tutors were also very welcoming and willing to help when available as well!
Matthew Goodman helped me a lot with Data structures. I wasn't very good with Java because I took 1212 and 1213 over the summer. But the help I received at the tutoring center was invaluable as it broadened my knowledge and exposure to programming. I appreciate all the help I recieved from the tutoring center.
Mohamed is a very helpful tutor along with the other tutors. He willing to sit down and go through the whole process with you with whatever you need help with. 10/10 recommended to anybody.
Ciara's tutoring saved my grade in 3181. Without her help and guidance not only would I be in over my head reading an outdated text book, but I would also have nothing to show for it in the end. She genially cares for anyone she tutors and sends out any tips or sources of information in mass emails whenever she can.
The tutoring center has been very helpful for me from the start of the semester. I had to get help on problems that bothered me for very long and in the tutoring center the concepts were broken down into smaller bits and were explained to me. This helped me get past a lot of roadblocks into the semester. Ciara has been helping me from the start and she not just knowledgeable but also very approachable. It is very hard to teach these abstract concepts, but she worked with me almost everyday and drew out concept maps. She is ready to talk through and understand how you want to approach the problem, which is what I was looking for rather than just an answer to my questions. Matthew was able to sit and work with me through ITSC 2175 and taught me very hard concepts in simpler terms. Alexus is a very sweet and approachable tutor. She is always ready to talk to you and even guide you through problems by breaking them into smaller steps. The tutors are very great resources and a great way to learn coding, math and even just problem solving.
I have received help on many different occassions from the CCI Tutoring Center. Predominantly from Cheslee who takes her time to explain things to me and relates the material in ways that make coding easier. She asks questions related to the material instead of spoonfeeding the answers. Even if I was excellent at coding, these tutors can still teach you a lot. Thank you Ikran,Mohammed, and Ryan, and Cheslee for all that you do.
I have booked several appointments with Ciara Moreno for my ITSC 3181 class and she has been beyond helpful. Not only is she a great teacher, she is also extremely patient and caring. Going to tutoring sessions has increased my understanding of the course content significantly and has improved my scores.
I am a student in ITSC 1213 Introduction to Object Oriented Programming and on Friday I had an appointment with Ikran Hassan to get help with an assignment. I wanted to let you know that Ikran went above and beyond to help me understand the problems I was having with my program. She drew out the logic tree to show me how my algorithms were working and explained in great detail how the methods actually worked. This was incredibly helpful since this is my first course taking Java, being completely oblivious to the syntax style. She even went over her appointment time because of a persistent run-time error I was getting and stayed until I had it corrected. Another tutor, Ciara Moreno, looked over my code before I was ready to submit it and pointed out how I could optimize it. Ciara explained shortcut methods that let me make single-line calls instead of the 10-20 lines of code I had written out. She also took the time to explain how my comments should look within the program and how to fully implement the Java documentation so I could meet the maximum point requirements of the assignment. Ikran and Ciara are excellent tutors and were definitely there to help me succeed. They both show a passion for computer science and an interest in helping other students. I was initially hesitant to get help from the tutoring center because of the required appointment times, but I can see with the limited space it is a necessity. I will definitely be making follow-up appointments for my remaining time in Java. Thank you for your time and for having a place like the ITSC tutoring center available.
The tutoring center is a great place to get help. I always worked with Mohamed. He is always helpeful, patient, he helps you understand more the material. thank you Mohamed I appreciate all the help you provided.
I have tutored with Rachel multiple times and she has been nothing but very helpful. She is very good at abstract thinking and therefore causing me to think my way through my code myself. Overall awesome experience!
Ikran Ali was super helpful in all the subjects I needed tutoring in. She was always punctual and stayed extra to help me without complaining. I learned a lot and now I feel I am more prepared for my other courses.
the tutoring center will give you all the help you need to do well. Garrison does a really good job of simplifying the concepts so you can understand them
David Farthing is a very intelligent man. He helped me throughout the semester and thoroughly explained what was taking place in my Data Structures code. If I did not understand a concept or part of a code snippet he would explain it on the white board. His help and insight was crucial in my success here at UNCC, I would have had to drop the class if the CCI tutoring center was not available. Everyone in the tutoring center is always friendly and willing to help. (6 starts)
Parker's dedication to helping me was far beyond what I had expected. Not only was he willing to help fix my programming errors, but he was also willing to stay late so we could get it done before the due date (Sunday). It was an absolute pleasure working with Parker to help debug my code and I am glad to know that the tutoring center is hiring people as competent, committed, and compassionate as him.
CCI tutoring is a great place to get tutored. They all make sure you understand the concept. Especially Ikran, Marium, David Farthing ,Mohammed, and Ryan they all have their own style on how they tutor and they all are so nice, sweet and humble.
I have been asked by Parker to write a review, on his help with my itcs 2215 class, he was great at explaining, patient, and knew his material well. I have also been helped by other tutors and all did great
Parker Garrison is a very focused and determined young man with great potential as a key player in this strive within the Computer Science program. He assist me with my algorithms and network inquires. He is a very energetic and passionate about his ability to learn and teach. I would recommend Parker because he has alot to offer students to seek help at the CCI tutoring program.
Ryan Carpenter is a valuable asset to the CCI tutoring program. He has helped me understand Ruby concepts and applications in a simplified and practical manner. I highly recommend Ryan to anyone that seeks to learn theoretical concepts about computer science. Good Job Ryan!
I highly recommend the tutoring center. I wokred with Peter, Ikran, and Mohammed. they were all very helpful in explaining how to do things and why to do it that way. They don't do the work for you but help you to do it yourself
At first Java was slightly overwhelming to me, but with assistance from Ikram and Mohamed, I was up on my feet in no time. They knew the ins and outs of the language and were able to answer any question I had regardless of how specific it was. I found the tutoring center especially useful because it was an extra resource that I could rely on to gather information if the book or notes did not have an answer I was looking for. I look forward to visiting the tutoring center again if I run into any obstacles.
The CCI Tutouring Center is a great place to go to get assistance for your programming issues. I worked with Ikran, Ryan and Marium this semester. They give you tons of feedback to make you a better programmer and help you figure out your problem and why it existed in the first place.
David has helped me so much over this semester. He is very knowledgeable about almost every area of computer science. He helps you underrstand the material not just push you through it.
CCi is very special place to me, all the tutors are awesome special Ikran Hassan, David Ekoue and Ryan i have worked with them and they are really special -with special gift, they are so friendly they become like a family when you know them is really hard to forget them. i will give them five stars specially Ikran Hassan she diverse [to have more because she help me a lot. she answer my question when ever i ask her even out of the office hours she helps via email or in woodw lab 120.
The CCI tutoring center is great! They provide amazing feedback and truly care to make sure you understand the material. Ikran is especially great in helping me to understand any concept logically and systematically to make sure I am able to apply the concept. I can't tell you how many times she was a huge help! All in all great service and support
Great place to learn and get your work completed. Great tutors that care and want you to succeed.
I have with Ikra. She is very nice and humble. Mr Dorochi recommended me that i go to a tutor and they can help me out. One day i went in and one of the girls said Ikra is very good and she turned out to be very good teacher. I have learned in my 4 hours of tutoring then i have learned from my TA or the entire class. We went over all of the concepts and she taught me step by step and one on one learning. Everything she worte and explained to me i took notes of it and it helps me review better. I look forward to coming and get help in the future!. Thank You Ikra.
This place is a lifesaver; I would have been lost sometimes without them. I've worked with Rachel Chesley and David Farting the most over the past two semesters. I never really needed tutors in the past, but they have been invaluable resource. I have worked with other tutors as well and they always try to help me figure out how to fix my code, no matter how messed up it is!
Rich Nguyen was very helpful with my Resume Review Sessions. He was very patient with me and provided insightful guidance and suggestions for improving my Resume. My resume had a very major revision in the process and it has been significantly improved. The revised version includes a number of positive changes highlighting the most important skills in my profile and quantifying qualitative achievements in my career. I now feel confident of having a good professional resume. I really appreciate him taking the time to work with me.
I have worked with many of the Tutors this year, and with Ryan Carpenter the most. He does an amazing job of making you see what needs to be done. His though processes help you see where your mistakes are and let you change the way you approach problems. The CCI tutoring center for me this semester has been top-notch.
They definitely know their stuff. I needed help in java and whenever I didn't understand something in the lecture, my tutor was always able to explain it in a much easier way.
David( the African one) and Ryan were the best. Ikkran was pretty good. Muhammad was ok. I never worked with Rachel Cheslea or the older fellow who ran the place.
The best place to be when you are stuck on a assignment and cannot figure out what happened. I love the staff and everyone is always willing to help out even if they have their hands full.
It is one of those few times when you have no idea why your program doesn't want to compile and the only best place to go to is your Professor's office. Most of the time the time conflict with my other classes make it hard for me to get to his office. The other best way is the tutoring center. They are just as well versed as my professor is at this course and content. I really appreciate David Ekoue's work. He makes sure I understand why I ended up with that error and also there were times when I panicked a lot because my errors looked bad. He was always there to comfort and make me think through the topic in the best possible way. I really also appreciate Ikran's work. She is a good teacher and explains concepts so well. She is equally talented and very methodical in her explanations. The best part about it is the fact that she teaches me concepts in a clear and concise manner. I have also taken a session of tutoring with David Farthing and it was like magic that I figured out why I was stuck on a problem. The explanatory methods are perfect and the concepts and topics were easy to figure. I am very thankful that I have someplace to go to according to my schedule which makes it very easy for me. Tutoring center has immensely helped me!
I had a good experience once before so 2 stars. But the last time I went for help with a complex C program they directed me to a guy who had probably only taken intro to CS. Had no idea what segfaults were or testing methods other than "print tests", there was a guy IN MY CLASS tutoring that wasn't able to help me for some reason? I realized I should just be using stack overflow mixed with coffee and hours of work instead and got better results
The tutoring center was extremely helpful. Everyone knows what they're talking about, and they can explain the materials very well. I came very close to giving up on ITIS class, but after my appointment with Ryan, I've gained more confident in class.
I have had many tutoring sessions in the CCI tutoring lab and they have always been productive and beneficial. David Farthing has been on point for most all of my sessions and has always helped.
Ryan Carpenter was extremely helpful throughout the entire semester. He was very patient with me and helped me to get my work done on time. I appreciate him taking the time to work with me and help me to understand the materials.
The tutoring center is an excellent resource and quite honestly, a brilliant idea. A place where students can get help, study with fellow IT students, and work. Personally, I often use Woodward as a meeting spot for study sessions, reviewing, and getting work done. And with the tutoring center, one of us could always schedule an appointment if we were all struggling with a concept or idea. I've had quite a few appointments, and I have to say the tutors are very adept at their job. They're friendly, helpful, and easy to communicate with because they are also students. I have to give a shout-out to Ryan Carpenter, this guy is very dedicated and knowledgeable. Every time I visit the tutoring center, be it in the morning , afternoon, or sometimes night, I frequently see him helping other students. He's definitely someone to count on.
This semester I've frequently visited the tutoring center, either for help on a particular assignment or as a meet-up spot with classmates. The environment that the center provides is really beneficial, friendly, and productive. Regarding sessions, I've had multiple tutoring appointments with Rachel Chesley, and I have to say she is an astounding tutor. Not only was I able to communicate with her effectively to help solve my issues regarding code, we always had a few laughs while doing so. I think her combination of knowledge and humor is very stress relieving, especially when one is worried about an upcoming due date for an assignment. I always recommend my fellow IT students to visit the tutoring center if they're struggling to wrap their head around a concept.
Hi Rich, I would like to extend my utmost appreciation to you for taking so much efforts and time in providing such insightful guidance and suggestions for improving my Resume. Thank you very much for your very careful review of my Resume, and for the comments, corrections and suggestions that you provided. My resume had a very major revision in the process and it has been significantly improved. The revised version includes a number of positive changes highlighting the most important skills in my profile and quantifying qualitative achievements in my career. I now feel confident of having a good professional resume. Regards, Graham
The tutoring center is very helpful! Ryan Carpenter was extremely helpful and knowledgeable! He was very great at explaining difficult concepts in a very clear way for a beginner like me.
The tutoring center is very helpful. I might pass my courses because of them!
The tutors are always very helpful. Rachel was very informative when helping me with my Web Development class over the summer. She helped me get from point A to point B in a new and efficient way. I really recommend getting help from the tutors!
I went to the tutoring center for the 1st time over this summer semester, and I was impressed. David Farthing was extremely helpful and really good at explaining concepts to me. Although this is my last semester at UNCC, I would recommend the tutoring center to everyone.
Went to the tutoring center for the first time this summer and was quite content. I was taking a class that they weren't offering tutors for but one of the tutors took time out his schedule to help me and my friend. very courteous staff of students/post grads. Would definitely come back again.
The tutoring center is one of the best places to get help when you need it. I have been going there for a lot of problems that I run into ;and if they don't know them they won't stop till they do.
David Oki... really helped me with troubleshooting today. He took each step slowly with me on the process I needed to complete before working on one of my assignments. There was one thing that both him & Rachel shared on their background knowledge about how DB systems worked that helped me in figuring out my own plan on how to fix a problem that most of my class was having. I'm very thankful for the hard work that this tutoring center does; a lot of times a few of us will come in for a problem that a large part of the class is having and then share some of our solutions with them, so really the tutoring center is helping more students then they will know!
Rachel was really helpful with helping me find a way to better manage an application I was using by pointing me to an safe online application manager for that program. She is really encouraging with her ability to empathize with the problems I've come up upon.
I love the tutor center! Everyone is extremely helpful and willing to help me in any way they can. I definitely recommend that students give it a try. No matter what you are enhancing skills!
